Does this count as community service?

I'm a senior in high school, and for community service I've been volunteering at this lutheran school that's down the street from my house, doing custodial work and things like that. Because it's a religious school, does it still count as community service? I was told today that certain religious things don't, because instead of serving the entire community, they only serve that one religion within the community.
