Moving to LA from SC - What weird things might I have forgotten - i.e. biannual smog check etc?

Anyone got any thoughts on moving to LA and things I might have forgotten? Yes I know it is more expensive... but you guys have some crazy regulations there... ie smog check, ceramic mugs may cause cancer... anything wild or slightly more than the basic with moving to anywhere I may should know?
