2002 pontiac firebird wont idle?

i just installed a new flowmaster muffler on my 3.8 v6 firebird but now the car will not idle correctly it just shuts off. is it just the computer needing to "learn" the new part or is there any other reason why it wouldnt idle? it idled fine before i put the new muffler on.
