How do I know if he likes me?

I'm 12 years old and I really like this guy at school. But I don't hang out with him or his friends. Because I'm scared that if I talk to him, he'll know that I like him. I can't even be around him without blushing or getting unfocused. Whenever I look at him, I can't stop. I get lost in his eyes. It may sound sappy, but it's true. I want to know how to tell if he likes me, but if we don't even talk or hang out, then how do I? And no one knows about it except my 4 best friends who don't hang out with him either. And I just found out that he's going to the school dance with another girl. I got so mad and still am. Mad at her, because she's going with him, and mad at him, because he's going with her. But also mad at myself because I can't get myself to ask him... or even talk to him! I don't even like looking at him when anybody else is looking at me because I'm afraid they'll figure out my secret! So, back to my question, how do I tell if he likes me when we don't hang out?
